  Search engines pride themselves by providing the most accurate results to their users. There are about 5 major search engines: Google, Inktomi, AllTheWeb/Fast, Ask Jeeves/Teoma and Altavista. There are also many smaller ones like: WiseNut, Gigablast and the meta-search engines. As sort of a preview of what you'll learn. AllTheWeb and Altavista were recently acquired by Overture. Overture has been bought out by Yahoo which already bought Inktomi. Google is privately owned. Ask Jeeves is a publicly traded company.
